My Support
System™

Champions. Contacts. Connections. No one goes farther alone — and the most focused leaders in the world are not the most independent. They are the most intentionally supported.

"We are all better together. No matter how driven, talented, and brilliant you are — you will go farther, faster, with a strong support team intentionally built around you."

The Most Focused Leaders Are the Most Intentionally Supported

There is a pervasive myth in high-performance culture that the strongest leaders are the most independent — that needing support is weakness, that asking for accountability is admitting failure, that the truly exceptional figure it out alone. This myth is not just false. It is expensive.

Research on high-performance across athletics, business, and creative fields consistently confirms the same finding: the leaders and performers at the highest levels are not the most self-sufficient. They are the most strategically supported — coaches, accountability partners, mentors, peer networks, and champions who see their potential clearly and refuse to let them settle for less.

The accountability science: A study by the American Society of Training and Development found that the probability of completing a goal increases from 10% (having an idea) to 65% (committing to someone else) to 95% (having a specific accountability appointment). Accountability is not a soft motivational tool — it is the single highest-leverage mechanism for goal completion available to any leader.

Know Who You Need and What They Provide

🏆Champions
People who believe in your potential — often before you fully believe in it yourself. They celebrate your wins, call you up when you shrink back, and model what is possible. Every leader needs 1-3 true champions who know your vision and refuse to let you go small.
Mentors · Coaches · Sponsors · That one friend who always believes in your next level
🔗Accountability Partners
People who hold you to your commitments with love and without excuses. Not the friend who says "it's okay, you'll get to it." The partner who asks "did you do it?" and helps you figure out why when you didn't. Accountability without relationship is pressure. Accountability with relationship is fuel.
Weekly check-ins · Shared goals · Mutual commitment structures · Stop-decide-do people
🧠Peer Network
People at or slightly above your level who understand your world, share your values, and challenge your thinking. Not a social group — a strategic community of leaders who are also doing the work of growing intentionally. Your peer network raises your baseline of what is possible.
Masterminds · Industry peers · Capacity OS community · Professional networks
🌱Coaches & Mentors
People with more experience, a different perspective, or a specific skill set who invest in your development intentionally. A coach asks the questions that unlock your answers. A mentor shares the map they drew from their own experience. Both are irreplaceable — and the investment in them is always returned multiplied.
Executive coaches · Business mentors · Health coaches · Spiritual advisors

The People Who Stop You, Decide, and Do

As a high creative and visionary leader, one of the most powerful types of support you can intentionally recruit is what we call builder energy — people who are wired to stop the creative spin, make a decision, and execute. These are the Dan Martell types. The people who look at your 47 ideas and say: "Which one. Right now. Let's go."

Visionary leaders without builder energy in their support system often stay in the beautiful world of possibility — endlessly refining, expanding, and creating — without closing the loop into executed, completed, launched results. Builders don't diminish the vision. They make it real.

The Core Values Index insight: We all have a primary energy — Builder (execution), Banker (systems), Merchant (relationships), or Innovator (ideas). The most dangerous situation for a high-Innovator leader is a support system full of other Innovators. Intentionally recruit the energy type that complements your own for maximum execution power.

The Four Energy Types — Build a Complete Team
Understanding your own dominant energy — and intentionally surrounding yourself with complementary types — is one of the highest-leverage leadership moves available. You don't need to be all four. You need all four in your orbit.
🔨 Builder
Stop. Decide. Execute. Gets things done. Results-driven. Moves fast from idea to action.
📊 Banker
Systems. Processes. Data. Keeps the machine running. Sees risk before it arrives.
🤝 Merchant
Relationships. Culture. People. Connects the team. Sees the human in every decision.
💡 Innovator
Ideas. Vision. Creativity. Sees what could be. The possibility engine of every team.

Who in My Life Has the Energy I Need Most?

Engineer Accountability Into Your System — Not As an Afterthought

Accountability only works when it is specific, scheduled, and relational. "I'll check in with someone" produces minimal results. "I will send [name] my three commitments every Sunday by 8PM, and we will speak every Monday at 8AM for 20 minutes" produces the 95% completion rate the research shows.
